The Crooked Javelin
The Crooked Javelin is a clean, hardworking man’s bar. Often filled with the unskilled laborers of Rat City and the Apprentice Guildsmen of Midtown the Javelin straddles the line that separates Rat City and Midtown.
The wide taproom has a heavy bar, solid furniture and is kept relatively clean by it’s owner, a plump halfling named Shamus Oakleaf. The Javelin is one of those rare places where Halflings are not ignored and discriminated against. This is because Shamus’ wife Ivy Oakleaf is generally considered one of the best cooks in Saltwater’s Weep. The Oakfleaf daughters have all trained with various musical instruments and took singing lessons and they give nightly concerts to the patrons. The tavern has a general festival atmosphere that helps the workers relax after a long day’s work. Shamus’ sons work as stable hands, cook’s helpers and barkeeps.
It’s generally considered that when Shamus passes on his oldest son Barnabus will keep the tavern running with his 4 brothers and 6 sisters. One result of keeping the laberors and craftsmen relaxed and happy is that the general men of Saltwater’s Weep are fiercely protective of the tavern and any member of the Oakleaf family. One sailor who came into the tavern and got a bit too friendly with one of Shamus’ daughters was found in Rat City with all of his bones broken, wrapped in pitch soaked rope and hanging over a small fire.
